From Insight to Integrity: Navigating Ethics, Citations, and AI in Research

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll explore how AI tools are being integrated into library databases and academic research workflows to boost your research. We’ll also clarify current guidance from universities and academic publishers regarding AI use, authorship, and citation practices. Finally, we’ll discuss how to critically assess AI-generated content for potential bias, inaccuracies, and suitability for scholarly work.

So you’re ready to publish your first scientific paper?

Primary historical sources, including images, newspapers, letters, and government records, are valued by historians for the picture they paint of the past. It is important to remember that the availability of primary sources also reflects the structure of our present distribution of power and equity. In this workshop we will examine the factors that contribute to the accessibility of historical information, and discuss strategies and efforts to bring to light the daily lives of communities that may be under-represented in the historical record.

Copyright and Your Dissertation/Thesis

This workshop will explore the benefits of open access publishing in scholarly journals. It will also provide an overview of institutional open access policies and funder mandates. Most importantly, participants will learn about the open access publishing support available through the University of California system level and UC Davis Library.

Locating Primary Sources for Social and Cultural Research

Publishing research in a scientific journal is a critical step in every researchers journey. However, it can be a very complex and intimidating landscape when doing it for the first time. This workshop will provide an introduction to major parts of the process including, an overview of the scientific publishing landscape, selecting a journal, working with collaborators, and more! This workshop is aimed at all STEM-aligned fields and all experience levels, but beginners are especially welcome.
