As part of the GradPathways Institute for Professional Development's Micro-credentials Program, the Conflict Competence Pathway provides training in understanding and managing conflict from the UC Davis Ombuds Office, for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars at UC Davis. This pathway covers topics such as:

  • Defining and understanding conflict
  • Managing emotions
  • Communicating, listening and problem solving, and more

This pathway is ideal for anyone seeking to develop and document foundational skills and training in conflict management.

This pathway takes approximately 4-6 hours to complete, and consists of 4 microbadges involving videos, evaluation forms, and live practice.

Microbadge: Understanding and Recognizing Conflict Submission Guide

  • Complete "Defining Conflict" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Understanding Conflict Escalation" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Navigating Conflict with Ombuds Office Services" and the associated evaluation.

Microbadge: Preparing to Address Conflict Submission Guide

  • Complete "Managing Emotions" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Shifting from Reacting to Responding" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Identifying and Addressing Core Concerns" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Adapting Styles to Navigate Conflict" and the associated evaluation.

Microbadge: Addressing Conflict Submission Guide

  • Complete "Communicating Collaboratively" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Listening to Build Understanding" and the associated evaluation.
  • Complete "Problem Solving Collaboratively" and the associated evaluation.

Microbadge: Conflict Management Practice Submission Guide

  • Microbadge: Conflict Management Practice is automatically issued to graduate students and postdocs who complete a scheduled managing conflict practice session with the UCD Ombuds office.  Dates and registration information can be found in the submission guide.
