Applying to Become a Professors for the Future Fellow

The selection process for the Professors for the Future program involves being nominated by any UC Davis affiliate (faculty, student, or staff) and submitting an application and C.V.  Two letters of recommendation and recommendation forms are also required.

The nomination, recommendation, and application forms are available below.  

The application window for the 2021 – 2022 academic year is closed.

• Eligibility

• Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars interested in applying to become a PFTF Fellow must meet the following criteria:

  --Currently enrolled UC Davis PhD candidate (candidacy must begin no later than the start of the fellowship year) or UC Davis Postdoctoral Scholar (title codes: 3252, 3253, 3254, 3255, 3256 - must be a current UCD postdoctoral scholar from the start of the program and throughout the fellowship year).
  --Nominated by faculty, administrators, fellow graduate students or postdoctoral scholars
  --Able to attend all required meetings, retreats, courses, and reception (Please review the 2021-22 schedule of PFTF events)
  
  All PFTF Fellows demonstrate the following:
  
  --Potential for leadership and academic service
  --Commitment to the academy and scholarly pursuits
  --Desire to contribute to graduate education and/or postdoctoral training by designing and completing a project beneficial to other students and scholars

• Do you know a graduate student or a postdoctoral scholar with natural leadership potential? If so, nominate them to become a Professor for the Future Fellow.  Nominations may be made by any UC Davis affiliate including faculty, students, or staff.

  Are you a candidate?

  Please give this form to two people familiar with your abilities as a graduate student/postdoctoral scholar and your potential to make significant contributions to your discipline and profession. If you are a graduate student, one recommendation must come from your major professor. If you are a postdoctoral scholar, one recommendation must come from your current principal investigator. The recommendation and form are to be submitted online by the recommender (applicants may not submit letters on behalf of their recommenders).

The program is designed to recognize and develop the leadership skills of outstanding graduate students and postdoctoral scholars through monthly meetings, professionalism courses, and other activities.
